LATEST DYNO FIGURES
Just had the first dyno figures back from Scholar on the Duratec HE engine. Even better than I had hoped, in basic form as delivered from the Ford factory with our management and throttle bodies inlet system the engine produced 193 bhp. Wonderful as we can run with a cat and still have to restrict the throttle opening to reduce the power to 180 bhp. BUT it does mean the engine in Sports 2000 trim by just removing the restrictor will enable the car to be competitive in other formula such as Supersports.

Best of all the engine will be ultra reliable and cheap. The cost of the sump inlet and management is expected to be about £2000 while the base engine is £990 for the first 10 and then £1300 for 2002 and £1700 2003 onwards. Ford have stated that the cost of the basic engine will go down from the list price of £1700 as the development costs for the Duratec are removed from the total cost of the engine. Once you have the full race engine then the cost of replacement engines is very low and will become one, if not the, cheapest race engines to run in motorsport that produces nearly 200 bhp in standard trim.

The next couple of weeks will be spent on a full dyno and engine specification program so all info will be available shortly. I should have some pics on this page on the installation during January.

This engine is what Sports 2000 has been crying out for a long time now, it WILL resurrect Sports 2000 in Europe, guarantee full grids in the UK and could unite Sports 2000 in the US.

The 2002 Sports 2000 "Pro Series" will see the motorsport introduction of the Ford Duratec 2 litre engine.

As developed by "Scholar Engines" the engine configuration is based around a standard engine with minor replacements of parts to enhance reliability and performance. This includes the following.

1) Single mass lightweight steel flywheel and uprated clutch assembly.
2) Modified induction system with separate 40mm throttle bodies.
3) M.B.E. 967 management system mapped for optimised spark and fueling controlled by air temperature, engine speed, water temperature, throttle position and barometer pressure.
4) Pace three stage dry sump system.

Cost of complete kit. £2495.14 + v.a.t.
Introductory offer on first twelve kits. £2150.00 + v.a.t.
Kits can be supplied as self fit. Alternatively "Scholar Engines" can fit and dyno test for £375.00 + v.a.t.

With the modern design of the "Duratec" engine it can be expected that, under proper operating conditions, rebuild intervals will be required after several thousand miles. Running costs should therefore be more cost effective compared to the present "Ford Pinto" engine.
